TRAP/CLAYS/SKEET
Double Trap-A shotgun event where two clay targets are thrown at the same time from the bunker in front of the shooter  and the shooter fires one shot shell at each.

Round- (of skeet or trap or sporting clays) trap and skeet events are broken down into smaller segments called  rounds where a group of five or six shooters normally shoot 25 shots each and then let another group shoot.

Skeet-A shotgun sport involving shooting at clay targets thrown from a "high house" on the left and a "low house" on the right.  The shooter moves to eight different points or stations on the field so the shooting angles at the clay targets are different.  At some stations the shooter will shoot "doubles,"i.e. shoot once each at two different clay targets.

Sporting Clays-A shotgun sport involving shooting at clay targets thrown from traps that simulate field shooting.  The courses are set up in fields and woods, rather on the standard skeet or trap range.

Trap-1. A shotgun sport involving shooting at clay targets thrown from a bunker or house whose top is at ground level in front of the shooter or 2. the machine that throws the clay target from the bunker or house.

SMALLBORE:
Air Rifle-A rifle that propels a .177 caliber lead pellet through the air with force generated by a spring-driven piston, compressed air or carbon dioxide (CO2).
Barrel- The metal tube of a firearm through which the bullet or shot charge passes when the firearm is fired.
Bullet- a single projectile fired from a rile or pistol.  A cartridge of is normally made of a case with a primer, gunpowder, and a bullet or projectile.
Bullseye- 1. The aiming point on a target that is usually round, black, and has concentric scoring rings.  Also known as a "bull". 2.  the center ring of the bull.
Full Course-120 record shots, 40 in each position (standing, kneeling and prone)
Half Course-60 shots, 20 in each position.
Junior- Standing held until Jan. 1 of the calendar year  which the shooter becomes 21 years old.  Juniors can compete in senior events.
Prone Rifle-a rifle designed to be shot only in the prone position.  Usually the stock  and cheek piece are specially made to fit the shooter while in the prone position.
Smallbore-Firearms chambered for the .22 caliber rimfire cartridge.
Three position-a rifle event where the shooter fires in three different positions: prone. offhand and kneeling.

AIR PISTOL
- A pistol that propels a pellet through the air with force generated by a spring-driven piston, compressed air or carbon dioxide (CO2).
Action Pistol-A form of pistol shooting competition where the shooters must move, draw their pistols, shoot at moving targets or different types of targets, and do so in the shortest amount of time possible.
Camp Perry- An Ohio National Guard Training Site in northwestern Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. The National Matches are normally held here.
Cartridge- normally composed of a brass case, a primer, gunpowder, and a bullet.  The firearm's firing pin strikes the base of the cartridge and explodes the priming compound.  That ignites the gun-powder that burns extremely rapidly which causes the hot gases that push the bullet out the barrel.  Rim fire cartridges have the priming compound on the inside rim of the base of the cartridge case.  Center fire cartridge cases have a separate primer that is in the center of the base of the case.
Center fire- A cartridge that has a primer centered in the base of the cartridge case.
Chamber- The enlarged portion of the rear of the barrel in which the cartridge is placed.
Distinguished- A person how has been awarded the Distinguished Rifleman Badge, The distinguished Pistol Shot Badge or the U.S. Distinguished International Shooters Badge.

LONG RANGE - Shooting events held at long distances.  In high power rifle prone matches the "long ranges" are 600, 800, 900 and 1000 yards.
