Lewis Medallion Match.  Special military competition, opened December 25, 1885 and closed July 4, 1886

Standard American target;  distance 800 yards;  any military rifle with open muzzle-sights.

The American team got a very effective drubbing at Creedmore (the past home of the National Matches, that are now held at Camp Perry, Ohio) on September 8, 1882.  

Disadvantages lay in both arms and amm
unition.

The Russell brothers had a fine rifle gallery in Boston on Washington Street

 

Russell bought the lead that was in the earthwalls of the ranges and melted them down, re-molded and sold them again.

Pope was the finest gunsmith of his era;  a distinguished shooter of the hill.  

He made barrels for Dr. Mann in his quest in ballistics     .
