James Smith

The match was held at Canada's Rockcliffe range on September 14, 1912.  The War Department decided not to hold the National Matches in 1912 because the best American marksmen were overseas. The Palma Team was selected largely on the basis of individual performances in the NRA Matches of 1912.

Sergeant F. H. Kean of Company G, 5th Mass. Militia, stationed in Woburn, won the Quimby Match at the Wakefield Range by shooting 20 bulls-eyes at 600 yards.
Kean won the Leech Cup at Sea Girt by taking seven shots at a target that was 800, 900, and 1000 yards away;  Frank hit 20 bulls-eyes out of 21 shots.

Lt. James M. Smith, USMCR of Ipswich Ma. was appointed to the Olympic two-man high power rifle team to compete in the 1953 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia.
Jim placed 8th in the 300-meter shooting match against the worlds best riflemen and women.
